A normal week at Pine Cove. Nothing normal. This week we had a family from the Congo. Not your run of the mill family. Mom, ten kids, husband killed by the Congo government while mom was pregnant with twins. No, not a normal week.
Momma Rose shared her story with our Woods Family Camp campers last night and I suspect they will never be the same. You see Momma Rose named her twins after the men who killed her husband. A subtle reminder of the forgiveness she offered to them because the Lord told her to do so.
The truth be known, I am sometimes hard-pressed to forgive the guy who cut me off on the Loop in Tyler. She is forgiving two men who altered her life forever. How can that be? Well, Jesus.
I know it sounds like a Sunday School answer. You see Momma Rose knows that she was bought with a price as Jesus shed his blood for her so that she could be forgiven for her misgivings against a holy God.
Her daughter Ellie has not smiled in years and I can see why. Murdered dad, family sentenced to a death camp in the Congo. She is smiling now. The Lord God met her at camp, she was loved by our staff, the family campers. She is not only smiling but hugging too.
Thank you Lord for not only rescuing Rose and her kids …. but for rescuing me too.
